Municipal Art Collection

The Challenge

The City of Winnipeg was converting a historical warehouse into a modern archive and art storage facility. The building required upgrades to comply with current archival standards in order to protect and preserve the priceless Hudson Bay collection of art. A major challenge was the threat of off gassing from the old wooden structure of the building. In addition, the collection had grown significantly and the facility was out of space with nowhere to expand.

The Solution

The building was completely renovated and all surfaces were sealed to comply with the best archival preservation standards. A powder coated, archival grade Mizer Mobile system was installed on a level deck, which more than doubled their art storage capacity and counteracted the unlevel floor. The system features A-Frame mobiles with angled art hanging racks to eliminate sway or vibration of the valuable art pieces. All of the deck surfaces were sealed and all off gassing threats were eliminated.
